Navsahyadri Group of Institutes (NESGI), Naigaon, Nasrapur, Pune has a rich tradition of pursuing excellence and has continually reinvented itself in terms of academic programs, research, infrastructure and industry collaborations. This has time and again been emphasized by Shri P N Suke, President, Navsahyadri Education Society to minimize the gap between the academia and industry to ensure high standards of professionalism in all walks of life. With this vision NESGI organized Faculty Development  Programme entitled “Importance of New Pedagogy at Graduate Level Programs”.

Dr. K.S.Charak, Director, MBA & MCA department said that  Navsahyadri Group of Institutes always endeavour to upgrade and enhance the skill sets of faculty in their respective domains. The Corporate Social Responsibility which the institute are bound with impels them not to be self-centred on this front but also engage the faculty from the bachelors’ colleges for larger societal upliftment as far as imparting the education is concerned. Thus enabling them to stay abreast with latest learning and teaching methodologies. This will help them churning out better and industry-desired workforce in return. With this thought in mind, NESGI’s Faculty of Management – MBA organised Faculty Development Programme 2018

The broad objectives of the programme were:

  5. To discuss the different pedagogy for teaching – leaning process.
  6. To know the importance of value added / certification courses that will helpful for the students in their placement activity.

FDP was divided in two sessions. The first session was taken by Dr. Ashutosh Misal, Director, Dr. D. Y. Patil Institute of Management Studies on the topic “Need for Continuous Upgradation of Faculty in Changing Scenario”.

Dr. Misal highlighted the students’ perceptions about the various courses at graduate level and examination preparations. He said Ph. D degree and research work done by the faculty members should not be mere eligibility norms for promotions. There should be genuine research work for the upliftment of the society. If we expect global competition  from our students, we as a faculty should enhance and upgrade our knowledge and technical skill. There should be interesting teaching- learning methods to be adopted and used by the faculty in the class. While working in the education system one should accept the ownership and then make efforts to accomplish the objectives.

The second session was a panel discussion on the topic “Industry Expectation from Graduate Students.” Panel members were 1) Mr. Sandeep Phuke, Head HR, KPIT Pune, 2) Dr. T. N. Salve, Principal, Annasaheb Magar College Otur, 3) Mr. Santosh Joshi, Sr. Manager – HR, Tube Investment India Ltd, Pune and 4 ) Moderator – Mr.Avinash Pawar renowned faculty member.

During the panel discussion various issues have taken up by panel members.

Why there is gap between rural and urban students .The importance of the certification courses for students. Why there is a gap between  industry expectations and skill sets of student and How the students will be prepared for the industry at graduate level programs . These are some questions raised and discussed by the faculty members and panel members. During the valedictory session, the Director of MBA & MCA, Dr. K. S. Charak said we as faculty members should take the entire responsibility for self development and students development. Ofcourse students will have different background but we need to bring them at some common and competitive platforms through various teaching pedagogies and offering them various value addition certification programs in their particular domain. When there are great institutions such as IIMs, IITs favour new and innovative courses and programmes for student and faculty development, why we at our institute are not taking initiative for the same? At the end of the programme Dr. Charak expressed all the thanks to the participants and panel experts.
